The Aleph is a fantasy fictional conceptual story, its prototype comes from the novels of Borges. This work is a story nested within The Circular Ruins - a story that describes a nested dream, nested within another novel. From the point of view of the dreamed man in The Circular Ruins, I conceived a story of him finding Aleph (the point that contains everything) in the same timeline as The Circular Ruins. - It is also my personal thinking on understanding the world.
In the story, the protagonist seeks the essence/source of all things through scientific/rational; sensibility; analytic philosophy combining the two, but in the end, he finds that there is no truth, which arouses thinking about essence and simulacra. At the end of the story, the father - the dreamer in The Circular Ruins - is mentioned, which leads the story to the novel in which it is nested, and, like Borges, once again suspends the difference between dream and reality. And the installation - the glass ball with a mirror - combined with the video, is a source that presents everything (- the infinite space of the twin mirrors), reflecting the whole story as well as the viewer himself.
The Aleph attempts to reveal the self-doubt that people experience when disenchanting the essential, itโs daunting and confusing, but itโs also amazing - the stories can be infinite. That is also my reflection on the design that is happening now - when all finality and standards no longer exist, solution has no basis. Could another possibility for design be not to construct and solve problems, but to create new spaces to play with, to present discussion and imagination itself, to open up more gaps, and to leave more uncertainty to be discussed - as Borges does. Perhaps this way, designer can provide another form of solace to some contemporary people who are also in a state of emptiness and confusion.
